The forecast for this day was genuinely bad. Heat, humidity, and rain were all in the cards. I showed up over-prepared, with backup plans for my backup plans.
What actually happened? Overcast skies kept everything cool, the light was soft and even, and the rain held off until exactly five minutes after we wrapped. Five minutes. I’ll take it.
Just Farms Realty Inc. had worked with me before in my studio, but this time they wanted something different, open fields, a rural feel, room to breathe. We headed out to Wheatfield Estate in Sparta, Ontario, and the place delivered.
The tree-lined driveway
There’s something about a long shaded path that just works for a group shot. The driveway at Wheatfield gave us natural framing without any effort, we just put people in it and let the location do what it does. These are repeat clients, so there was no warming-up period. They showed up relaxed, had ideas ready, and were game for anything. Notice that these three photos are the same photo, but cropped differently. This is so important for branding because each crop will have a different purpose.
Out in the field
The open field shots are where the wide crops really shine. A tight headshot is great for a LinkedIn profile, but a wide crop of the same image? That’s your website hero banner, your email header, your listing page backdrop. Most people default to the close crop and never think about the wider version, but having both from the same frame doubles what you can actually do with a single photo.
Besides the group photos, we also made sure that we got some individual photos. The light was fantastic,. Many people assume that sunny days are best for photography, but a great overcast day can’t be beat.
We finished, packed up, and then the sky opened. I mean OPENED! Torrential downpour. Honestly, the timing felt a little personal. These are good clients, easy to work with, willing to try things, and they came back. That last part means a lot. The rain can wait.
