OKTC Does It Again with Singing In the Rain!

Anita WatkinsUncategorized

OKTC did it again!! Original Kids Theatre Company put on a tremendous production of Singing In the Rain at the Spriet Family Theatre in the Covent Garden Market this January, 2014. It was completely sold out and it was easy to see why!  I was lucky enough to be invited to take photos during their dress rehearsal.  Many thanks to the cast and crew for allowing me to be their paparazzi.

For those of you unfamiliar with the original movie or Broadway show check out Gene Kelly singing and dancing to Singing In the Rain.

The young people at Original Kids, along with the creative crew, offered us a tremendous version of this timeless classic.

As you might be able to guess from these images, stunning choreography, beautifully executed was only one of the delightful parts of this performance.  It is tough to follow Gene Kelly, but these actors did it in style.  We so impressed with their talent, dedication and sheer joy.

Slapstick comedy was also featured in this show. From brilliantly executed falls and flips, to pies in the face, this show had us in stitches from beginning to end.

I have to confess a personal bias: my daughter, Kathleen, played the part of Lina Lamont in this show.  For those of you not familiar with this show, Lina is a 1920’s silent film star who is struck hard by the advent of the talkies.  She had a voice that did not match her appearance!! As soon as Kathleen opened her mouth, all of our mouths dropped.  Who knew she could sound so absolutely horrible!!

The singing was sublime.

London, Ontario is so lucky to have so many exceptionally talented young people. Can’t wait to see them in future shows for OKTC, London Community Theatre or even Broadway!  Maybe I will be lucky enough to shoot some of their head shots….

Congratulations to all of them!
