Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want. Sarina Haggarty is one of those people. She walked in with a clear sense of her brand, her vibe, and who she is, and that made for one of the most fun sessions I’ve had in the studio in a while. No second-guessing. No hesitation. Just a focused, warm, talented person ready to go for it.
Sarina was the Winner of the Slaight Communications Inc. MIA Artist Development Award and the FCLMA’s Fan Favourite Award.
Sarina is a singer who splits her time between Nashville and London, Ontario. Because she’s a performer, we could lean into that side of her and explore it in a way that felt real, not staged.
We started with the guitar because that’s where Sarina lives. It’s not a prop, it’s just part of her. The chair added a little edge to the frame, and she owned it completely. You can see it: this woman knows exactly who she is, and she’s not going to apologize for it.
We moved through a few different setups. Wooden chair. Neutral backdrop. Then the brick wall. And here’s the thing about Sarina: she came in knowing exactly who she was, but she was still game to let me push a little. That’s rare. Most people either have no idea what they want, or they’re so locked in they won’t budge. She was neither. The pink tulle jacket was my idea. When I spotted those pink boots, I knew we had to try it. She wasn’t convinced. But that photo is now on her website, so. Yeah. That’s how it works when it clicks. She does her thing, I do mine, and we both get out of the way long enough to let something real show up.
Sarina has upcoming gigs here in London, if you want to catch her live, go find her. She’s worth it. And if you’re curious about her music, look her up. Link to her website is below.
